Singer Jan Smit is celebrating his fifteen-year anniversary in a packed Ahoy. Who would have thought that in 1997, when Jantje's debut single Ik Zing Dit Lied Voor Jou Only came in at number 1? Nice to hear such a guy, but the moment he gets his beard in his throat, the fair is really over. Smit, however, has grown into one of the nicest folk singers in our country. These CDs and DVD show that
… convincingly. The Volendam organizes a party without many show elements, but with the strong songs Als De Morgen Has Come, Hope, Love And Trust and Live Now It Can. The evening starts with Mama, a duet with Carola Smit (BZN) and De Zangertjes van Volendam, the choir where he was once discovered. The eel sound comes by several times, although Smit taps just as easily from other dishes. His reach is therefore much greater than the fans of unadulterated Volendam pop. What else lies ahead? Annual stadium concerts à la Guus Meeuwis? It could just be, because after fifteen years there is still enough growth in it. (JE)more
