In terms of sound, the guys from Kodaline are a bit like Coldplay in their early years. They say they don't want to be an Irish variant of the London band, but the debut album seems to prove otherwise. On All I Want, the single with which the foursome broke through in the Netherlands, singer Stephen Garrigan sounds a bit like a young Chris Martin. Still, Kodaline is deficient by constantly comparing
… them to Coldplay. On songs like Love Like This, After The Fall and Big Bad World you can hear their own sound and also in terms of content they know how to distinguish themselves from comparable bands on this debut album. The title In A Perfect World is perfectly chosen. The hope for a better future is emphasized on almost every song. That is accompanied by loving and sometimes sweet lyrics, but the high degree of accessibility makes this debut album suitable for a wide audience. Actually just like Coldplay's work. (BvdV)more
