At the end of the sixties, a true international breakthrough took place for Dutch pop music. Shocking Blue and Tee Set, for example, competed for the highest regions of the American hit parade from the end of 1969 with Venus and My Belle Amie respectively. The latter song was the twelfth single by Tee Set, the quintet that was formed in 1966 around the voluminous baritone singer Peter Tetteroo (Tom
… Jones from Delft) and the talented songwriter and arranger Hans van Eijk. Both the single and the album of the same name marked the return of Van Eijk, who had previously left for After Tea. Many hits were to follow, such as She Likes Weeds and A Sunny Day In Greece. If this unsurpassed reissue shows anything, it is that Tee Set was a real single band and a forerunner of the cheerful and always a bit jerky pounding Nederglam that emerged from 1973 onwards. Besides the original album in mostly different mixes, this CD is full of rare rarities such as an Italian version of Ma Belle Amie. (MR)more
