Giovanca takes us on a spiritual journey at Satellite Love and that is very noble. On her third official solo album, in terms of textual experience, she very much responds to feeling and awareness, especially her own. This works out very well at times, but far too often it does not arrive. Compared to her previous work, the emphasis is now more on her vocals than the production, which is a shame.
The singer has gathered a whole new team of musicians around her who especially show how gifted they are with the funky, exciting tracks. This record is therefore at its strongest when unpacking in the production area. Especially the Fender Rhodes piano, synths and drums are the tastemakers. Giovanca is a very good singer, but unfortunately her vocals are not exciting enough to be the supporting force. (GL)more
