Canadian formation Arcade Fire has been at the cutting edge of alternative music and rock for the masses since 2004. The band around the couple Win Butler and Regine Chassagne follows its own course, but sells very well. Without really connecting with current trends and even without a major label, every new album hits like a bomb. The fourth piece of work Reflektor was already hype through a clever
… marketing campaign before anyone had heard of it. When the double album is released, the reactions are unprecedented lyrical. The electropop featured on (2010) came into play, now claims a major role. Because of this, and thanks to the addition of Haitian percussionists, Arcade Fire sounds different than before. However, the melancholic and theatrical part of the first CDs has made a comeback. With a total playing time of more than five quarters of an hour, that also forms Arcade Fire's Achilles heel. Reflektor is really just 'mighty' in both senses of the word. This is Pop music with a capital P. And a capital O, another capital P, capital M… Enjoy, but listen in moderation. (JE)more
