Van Dik Hout has existed for twenty years and that is marked with a new studio album. Although, new. They are songs that could have been on the previous record or on the one before that. The photos in the CD booklet imply that the album was recorded live on the tape. That is not the case, but the loose, relaxed atmosphere does sound through. On songs such as We Gaan Voor Dit Moment and Wrakhout,
… this provides the correct translation from gaming pleasure to listening pleasure. The biggest missed opportunity in this context, however, is the song Wat Doet Er Dan Zo Zeer. It is a duet with Ellen ten Damme. The voices of Buitenhuis and Ten Damme mix beautifully and this song is potentially the best song on the record. It is a shame that Buitenhuis and Ten Damme have not taken an extra step to sharpen their timing. Now they sit on too many words next to each other, where it would have been infinitely more beautiful if those words started and ended right away. That irritates and is an unnecessary blemish on an otherwise fine album. (HF)more
