Zijlstra's new record is again full of salty jazz poetry. The album was recorded entirely in-house and that, together with the arrival of the new saxophonist Jan Menu, gave 'an enormous good feeling and an incredible amount of inspiration'. The song Niet Called Wel Verstaan is a tribute to Maarten van Roozendaal, who died in 2013. Phrases such as 'You don't feel called to, but you just have
… to go' and 'Whoever lives will be radically lost' are already beautiful, but with Zijlstra's husky voice and bitter accompaniment it has become a successful monument to the young artist . Geen Krimp contains seventeen gems of jazzy cabaret songs that get deeper under the skin with every listen. Jeroen Zijlstra rises above himself on this CD and that is very clever, his extensive oeuvre has now been examined. (HF)more
