After more than ten years of absence, the Pixies stepped back onto the stage in 2004. The influential group, which laid the foundation for alternative bands such as and between 1987 and 1993 , was able to book one lucrative world tour after another. Bassist Kim Deal held back a new record for a long time, but changed tack in 2012. Halfway through the recording process of Indie Cindy, however, she
… gave up. The remaining trio decided to finish the record without the charming crowd favorite. This was against the sore leg of many fans and critics, who for the sake of convenience forgot that Deals contributed to the classics (1990) and (1991) was already minimal. The heavily criticized Indie Cindy mainly sounds like a sequel to those records. The surf flicks that guitarist Joey Santiago puts on top of the characteristic chords of singer Black Francis are as stimulating as ever. The sacred fire is also present at the prize numbers What Goes Boom, Magdelena 318 and Blue Eyed Hexe. It all sounds a lot less groundbreaking than before, but people who expect that from the Pixies in 2014 should delve into the law of the inhibiting lead. (JE)more
