Ten years after his last album as Plastikman, Richie Hawtin shows some of his alter ego again. After Closer (2013), the Canadian techno DJ focused on organizing events in Ibiza, brewing sake and working under his own name. An order from the fashion brand Dior brought Plastikman back. At the end of 2013, he played a live set at the Guggenheim Museum during a fundraising campaign by the company, an
… assignment that moved Hawtin to start writing new music under his old pseudonym. The live recording of that evening serves as the basis for the album EX, which is released six months later. 'EX is an Excursion into the past, Exploring the uncertainty of the future, EXpanding and EXtending the immersive atmospheres of my Plastikman project,' said Hawtin of the album title. Grotesque words, that fit well with the rave reviews that EX receives internationally. EX is a collection of minimal techno, condensed into just a few sounds that unfold quietly to the listener. Little action, but a lot of excitement. Too boring to dance to, but perfect for thinking. (JE)more
