Performing in The Rainbow was one of the goals Queen set for herself when the quartet was founded in 1970. The London concert hall, which could accommodate three thousand people, seemed unreachable for a long time. After a lot of pain and effort, Queen made her debut in 1973 with an album of the same name that did only reasonably well. But from that moment on it went fast. A year later the group
… released the bombastic LP Queen II (March) and Sheer Heart Attack (November) and scored hits with Seven Seas Of Rhye and Killer Queen. The Rainbow could now be filled three times with ease and this highlight of course had to be recorded. However, it never came from a complete concert film or live album. Forty years later Live At The Rainbow is released on CD DVD. A nice report from Queen before the band scored any hits. This double CD contains two concerts from 1974, with many (hard rock) songs that would soon leave the set list after Bohemian Rhapsody (1975) made the group world famous. (JE)more
