Tricky, the enfant terrible of the British music world in general and the trip hop in particular, named his tenth album after his christening name Adrian Thaws. That could mean that this producer and rapper wants to show more of himself, but in an interview he claims the opposite: no one knows who Tricky / Thaws really is and the media should stop guessing about it. He also calls it his club album
… and he has a point there, because Adrian Thaws is one of his most accessible and danceable work. Strong are the energetic hip hop tracks with rapper Bella Gotti, but a light reggae song like Silly Games, sung by Tirzah, will also do well on the dance floor. In addition, Tricky growls and snarls herself through more obscure and dark tracks such as Nicotine Love and the provocative My Palestine Girl. Adrian Thaws is a pleasant and varied album by this elusive artist. (MR)more
