The heyday of hit successes such as Let Love Rule and Always On The Run are long behind American singer / songwriter / producer Lenny Kravitz. That does not stop this African-American model rocker with Russian blood from stiffly continuing to make albums full of hits. He does this, also on his tenth album Strut, entirely according to his own formula in which classic rock and horny funk come together
… in strong pop songs. There is little to criticize on that line on Strut. In opener Sex, he calls out for carnal love and his female fans won't think of much else, aided by the sight of his dry-trained bare torso in the inner sleeve. Sometimes it goes deeper, as in the single The Chamber Of New York City, but Kravitz remains, both visually and musically, a poseur who does not shy away from a rock, love or sex cliché. That he masters it down to the last detail and perfects it is his strength. (MR)more
