Although the Belgian band K's Choice did not shy away from some guitar violence in the nineties, most of their songs always remained fairly tame. Especially when Gert and Sarah Bettens took a more contemplative path with their fourth album Almost Happy (2000). After a long break, the Flemish returned with Echo Mountain (2010), which consisted half of ballads. Then K's Choice went into theaters with
… the acoustic record Little Echoes. After that, according to brother and sister Bettens, it was high time to get a bit firmer again. That worked out nicely on The Phantom Cowboy, which keeps the momentum going with eleven songs in half an hour. The guitars sound fat and the riffs are nice and dirty. The influence of producer Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, Mark Lanegan) can be clearly heard. It ensures that The Phantom Cowboy reveals a new side of K's Choice. The part of their audience that was a bit dozed off is shaken up completely with this CD. (JE)more
