Terence Blanchard started out as a solo artist in 1991. Since then he has recorded more than thirty albums and delivered the soundtracks for more than fifty films. The oeuvre of this diligent trumpet player covers an extensive range of genres. Always looking for something new, he throws himself into the groove in 2015 with his new band The E-Collective. Breathless is full of funk, r & b and
… blues. Besides the virtuoso work of Blanchard that varies from super energetic riffs to beautiful, elongated tones, Donald Ramsey's tight bass work is particularly striking. Breathless starts off dazzling with a cover of Eddie Harris and Les McCann's Compared To What. According to Blanchard, Breathless is a wish fulfilled. In his youth he listened a lot to The Headhunters, Weather Report, Jimi Hendrix, Parliament-Funkadelic and later to Prince and D'Angelo. He's always wanted to explore the groove, but hadn't gotten around to it before. Fortunately, with Breathless the time has finally come. (AD)more
