It is striking how the discographies of the British neo-waveband Editors and the American counterpart Interpol continue to run in parallel. An overwhelming debut, followed by an even better second CD and a more experimental but less successful third. In the case of Editors, it was in 2009, with In This Light And On This Evening, where the guitars were exchanged for synthesizers. With the largely
… synth- and bloodless follow-up The Weight Of Love, things really go wrong in 2013 (just like three years earlier with Interpol's self-titled fourth). With album number five, Editors unfortunately again follows the bad example of El Pintor, which was released last year. Like a wounded hippopotamus, In Dream drags on for more than 50 minutes, with the swollen, almost under its own weight collapsing Salvation and the Bronski Beat rip off Our Love. Only on Ocean Of Night and Life Is A Fear does - despite the clichéd titles - something of the fire of the early years. One consolation: Live Editors will continue to draw from that period; they have no choice. (RME)more
