Anyone who can only think of De Kermisklanten or John Woodhouse when hearing the term 'accordion' should listen to Kimmo Pohjonen. The Finn has been a musical adventurer for 20 years, conjuring music in almost all styles (folk, jazz, avant-garde, electronica, ambient and rock) from his custom-made accordion. Improvisation played a major role on previous albums, but Pohjonen says that this album is
… the first on which he felt he had full direction. The result is astonishing. Pohjonen's music sounds completely unique. There is hardly any singing, but Pohjonen knows how to evoke a wide range of emotions in every song. From menacing (the opening track Cyclon) to optimistic (Sulo), hectic (Atomi) and melancholic (the aptly titled Serenity). With music that sounds primitive and futuristic at the same time, Kimmo Pohjonen cannot be pigeonholed. (PdK)more
