'I'm actually more of a jazz purist myself,' says the character Sick Boy in Trainspotting - the cult classic set in the UK in the early 1980s. At the same time, Jah Wobble was part of , a legendary post-dot trio that found each other in a love for reggae and dub. Dub remained the basis for his further career, combined with Arabic melodies, sultry vocals, African percussion and electronic sounds.
But apparently there was also a jazz purist hidden in Wobble (real name: John Wardle) all this time. It already surfaced on (2012), for which the bassist was inspired by fusion musicians such as and . Everything Is Nothing convincingly elaborates on that. Besides afrobeat drummer and trumpet player Sean Corby (who also shone on 7) there is a nice role for ; as bass player for , PiL was a major influence, now he can be heard as a musician and co-producer on this largely instrumental and exciting album by his teacher.
