'So, what would you like little maniacs to do first?'. Wild World begins with this quote from the 80's film hit Weird Science (in which two nerds construct their dream woman with the help of a stack of Playboys and a computer). It brings to yours truly exciting memories of actress Kelly LeBrock, but it is also a nice clue to Bastille's working method. The four Britons pride themselves on keeping as
… many things in their own hands as possible. And the songs on this successor to bestseller Bad Blood (2013) can be heard as pleasant cut-and-paste works. Bit of (especially Dan Smith's vocals), bit of bombast à la , some dry beats from (Four Walls), a pinch of gospel (Winter Of Our Youth) and a sample here and there. That variety is at the same time the strength and weakness of Wild World, which would have benefited from a little more focus and stricter selection. Bastille knows how to make catchy songs in 2016 - just listen to the single Good Grief - but 19 pieces in 66 minutes is really too much of a good thing. (RME)more
