No other metal band knows how to evoke such violent reactions as Metallica. The first three albums are celebrated by headbangers as undisputed metal monuments, but the later albums were not always received with enthusiasm. Despite that, Metallica is still the largest metal band in the world in 2016. The California quartet convincingly capitalizes on that status with this double album. The first
… thing that strikes you is the massive sound of bass and drums, kudos to producer Greg Fidelman. But the band itself also sounds inspired, band bosses and Lars Ulrich in the lead. That duo also wrote all the songs. Of those songs, the compact opener Hardwired and the furious closing track Spit Out The Bone are particularly striking. That last song could have been on one of the first three Metallica records. You can't really give Metallica a better compliment. (PdK)more
