From her early childhood, Luísa Maita (São Paulo 1982) was surrounded by music. Her father Amado Maita is a singer / composer and her mother Myriam Taubkin organized concerts. Luísa made his debut in 2010 with the album that also received good reviews outside Brazil. A tour of North America was also part of the inspiration for this album which, according to Maita, is a reflection of 'Brazil in
… the electronic age'. The rhythms are often formed by crisp, electronic beats but just as often supplemented by Brazilian percussion instruments. Bossa nova, samba and MPB get a contemporary update from Luísa Maita and her band. Maita also impresses vocally. She can lash out, but also sing sweetly and sigh and lisp seductively. All in all, a must for fans of exciting new music from Brazil. (PdK)more
