She puts you on the wrong track for a moment. Now, Shania Twain's first album in 15 (!) Years, starts with a reggae beat. Surprisingly, but with the chorus the Canadian singer returns to the sound that earned her the nickname 'Queen of Country Pop'. A lot has happened in the past 15 years. Twain raised a son, divorced her husband (and regular producer) Robert “Mutt” Lange, who left her for her
… best friend. She also worked hard on new music. That process was seriously disrupted by Lyme disease, which also affected her voice. For a moment she feared that she could no longer sing. Twain's voice has changed audibly. It has become lower, and also slightly more nasal, although the latter may also be due to the effects with which her voice is regularly polished. The setback resounds in her lyrics, but she also looks to the future with hope and has an old-fashioned crush on a new guy. It is a pity that now is not a whopper of a hit that can compete with Man I Feel Like A Woman or That Don't Impress Me Much. (PdK)more
