After (2014), which has won three Grammys, it is time for a party at Colors. Beck has temporarily shaken off the serious character and shows himself as a true pop star at Colors. During the opening song he immediately conjures up his pan flute and comes with an explosion of exuberance. He gives a certain dreaminess to his pop songs. Beck does not adhere to conventions and thus builds up a beautiful
… whole that is both accessible and imaginative. The cover that Beck undergoes here is somewhat reminiscent of Arcade Fires (2017). Why bother when a light-hearted approach also produces beautiful music, right? Beck proves for the umpteenth time that he is a musical centipede with Colors. There could not have been a better title for this colorful album. Beck gets away with everything. (JvQ)more
