Five years have between (2013) and Singularity. Relative to Immunity, Hopkins is steadily continuing my signature sound. From the opener on, the Brit shows how good he is at creating wide and compelling soundscapes that hang somewhere between ambient and techno. On the one hand he does that - as on previous albums - with clear and calm beats, on the other hand with deep basses and sharp sounds.
Hopkins often makes the switch from soft to hard within his songs as a structure. Structure is the trump card of the Brit, who knows how to bring most of his songs to a climax. Singularity is not by definition a record to dance to, but an album to undergo. It is quite a sit. Fortunately, Hopkins also knows how to appeal to the listener's heart, because compared to earlier work there is more emotion in his music. (JvQ)more
