This album full of solid pub rock and cockney rhythm & blues came about in borrowed time. After all, in 2014 it became known that British guitarist Wilko Johnson was terminally ill. A farewell tour followed, but his illness turned out to be more treatable than expected. After playing an executioner with his weathered head in the fantasy series Game Of Thrones, he happily picked up his guitar
… again. His staccato chopping and scratching playing (as if he was also the executioner of his instrument) resounded from the first exciting records he made in the mid-1970s with and is still recognizable out of thousands. Featuring the rhythm section of 's and keyboardist ( ) brings Johnson back to that heyday of pub rock with an album full of steaming 'Feelgood' sounds. Johnson may have lost some organs during his illness, but fortunately his distinctive personality has remained unaffected. (MR)more
