At the end of 2018, Ad Vanderveen will release his second album of this year. This Hilversum singer-songwriter is not lacking in inspiration. Since the breakup of its roots band in 1993 he does not turn his hand for an average of two albums a year. Records full of tasteful roots music with philosophical lyrics, sometimes injected with a good dose of Neil Young rock, other times more moody and
… traditional sounding. I Was Hank Williams belongs to the latter category. Vanderveen practically only recorded it with his guitar as accompaniment. Even his loyal second voice and girlfriend Kersten De Ligny makes himself heard only sporadically. Vanderveen albums always sound tasteful and impeccable. He may not be an American, but he has completely managed to take over the Americana genre. This persuasive collection of musing and silent songs bears witness to this completely. An album that its small but loyal audience can fully enjoy. (MR)more
