The Norwegian Sigrid can be added to the list of Scandinavian electropop ladies and squeezes herself between artists such as , , and . Her debut Sucker Punch is full of light-footed, sparkling Scandipop with sing-along choruses. In the song Strangers, the pulsating melody evokes a Robynesque feeling, but what is missing on Sucker Punch is the emotion that Robyn manages to put into her music.
Sucker Punch thus remains somewhat flat and by the book. Ballads are alternated with danceable songs full of echoing drums, heaving synths, grinding electro or flapping drum machine beats. It certainly sounds good, but the merciless blow that the title suggests is not delivered. Actually, the title of the song Basic therefore fits a little better with this album. (JvQ)more
