The world was shocked by the death of Dolores O'Riordan in early 2018. Due to excessive alcohol consumption, this beloved Irish singer drowned in the bath in a London hotel. At the time she was in London to record a new album with her band The Cranberries. After her death, the three remaining members decided to complete it, using the demos that O'Riordan had previously sung. It was supposed to be
… a comeback album for the group since (2012) had not recorded any new material. That comeback might also have happened because In The End shows The Cranberries at their best. Wide and stadium-like rock and new wave are alternated with beautiful semi-acoustic ballads, powerful and fragile at the same time sung by O'Riordan. With songs like All Over Now (with the opening lines: 'Do you remember, remember the night. At a hotel in London') and the bitter closing track In The End, O'Riordan seems to be making grim predictions. This definitive farewell album is a worthy swan song. (MR)more
