After completing his acclaimed album in 2014, Steven Ellison, aka Flying Lotus, threw himself into the movie. His feature debut Kuso (an 'independent body horror comedy film' according to Wikipedia), however, did not make it to mainstream cinemas. Flamagra is the first album in five years by this multi-talent from Los Angeles and a hectic adventure film for the ears. A collage of funk, hip-hop,
… electronics and musique concrète in 27 tracks that often last less than 2 minutes. Once again he managed to attract special guests, such as live fun legend , singer and bassist and film director and part-time musician . Where Ellison mainly explored jazz on You're Dead, Flamagra is dominated by fragmentary electronic music that collides, derails and sometimes wants to swing. The whole builds up to an epic look into the whimsical and sometimes dark brain of Flying Lotus. (MR)more
