After the death of singer Ian Curtis in 1980, no one could have predicted that his remaining band members would have a glorious career ahead. These three somewhat faceless men never looked for a new front man, but continued as the New Order collective, only supplemented by extra musician Gillian Gilbert. Three years later they broke through (again) with the influential electron song Blue Monday.
This hit is not on this prestigious live album, which is the result of a series of performances in the former Granada television studios in Manchester. The place where ever made television recordings for the first time. With visuals by Liam Gillick, New Order honored themselves this time with a repertoire that deviated from their well-known songs. No Ceremony for example, but the much darker b-side In A Lonely Place of this (debut) single. They also played several, flawlessly performed Joy Division songs, as can now be heard on this tasteful New Order product on all fronts. (MR)more
