After the of the horror film Suspiria (2018), the frontman returns with a solo album in which this time the spine-chilling comes to the surface in a summary manner. The album consists of mostly dormant tracks that do not always involve much and therefore do not always sound 'easy'. Take the minimally pulsating Last I Heard (.. He Was Circling The Drain) that creaks and squeaks; here Yorke is only
… handing out little pinpricks. In Twist he throws more layers on top of each other, creating a fuller sound. And so he shifts back and forth a bit between ultra-minimalism and semi-minimalism. Yorke looks like the electronic sound of (2000) through a shredder and then slowed it down again. ANIMA thus shows its ever fascinating and almost elusive spirit, which is transformed here into fascinating but also deliberately difficult music. (JvQ)more
