Former frontman David Byrne has always profiled himself as much more than a pop artist. He is an original thinker who wrote artistic reflections on the experience of music and his great hobby cycling. He is also a regular guest on TED Talks where he talks about the influence of architecture on music, among other things. His latest studio album (2018) is an ode to positive thinking in dark (political)
… times. This resulted in the Broadway show of the same name, in which Byrne plays with a uniformly dressed band that performs American Utopia barefoot and like a fanfare with hanging instruments, supplemented with Byrne's greatest (Talking Heads) hits. And no matter how original and artistic this all may sound, the big hits on this double album are the versions of well-known songs such as I Zimbra, Once In A Lifetime and of course Burning Down The House and Road To Nowhere, played with new energy. These performances make a Talking Heads reunion (which Byrne says he doesn't like) unnecessary. (MR)more
