Kevin Parker takes it a bit slower on The Slow Rush than on predecessor (2015). He also sneaks even further away from the guitar sound that dominated his first two albums. If he still explored the dance floor on Currents, then he plopped down on The Slow Rush in a lazy chair at the edge of that dance floor. He also occasionally comes out sporadically. The tempo is turned down a bit further, but
… the psychedelic undertone is still just as penetrating. Parker reflects on his insecurities and is candid in beautifully layered songs with influences from funk and disco. Prize song is the funky Breathe Deeper to which he places a sweet piano melody, complete with a techno-like climax. (JvQ)more
