The wonderful musical world of Thundercat rumbles on on his fourth album. It Is What It Is is called the successor to the unsurpassed (2017) on which California bassist and singer Stephen Bruner, in collaboration with producer his own sound. On It Is What It Is he only perfects this. Again his bass meanders like a snake through 15 fragmentary songs full of awkward smooth jazz, 80s funk, hip-hop
… and neo-soul, as if the late and (from ) started drinking together. Bruner knows how to sing every 'fragment' into a coherent whole with supple falsetto. It Is What It Is adds little to Drunk, but is certainly not inferior to it. (MR)more
