On (2018) Muziekweb already concluded that it is difficult to pigeonhole Hanni El Khatib's music. This is no different with his fourth album Flight. The period leading up to the release of Flight was not an easy one. El Khatib suffered from a stressful and unhealthy life which led to depression. He stopped drinking, took time for himself and started looking again for what makes him happy in music.
Fortunately he still sounds crazy on this album, because once again the Filipino Palestinian stuffs as many styles as possible together. This time he worked on his jams with producer Leon Michels ( , , ). Blues, hip-hop, doo-wop, lo-fi pop and psychedelic rock follow each other in rapid succession, El Khatib certainly doesn't beat about the bush. Compared to Savage Times, which was clearly more based on rock and blues alone, Flight goes all the way through the sound barrier. Fasten your seat belt. (JvQ)more
