The same year that Such Pretty Forks In The Road was released, Alanis Morissette's most successful album (1995) celebrated its 25th anniversary. The success of this, including the hits You Oughta Know and Ironic, she has never equaled, although Morissette still stands her ground. She is now trying to combine her musical career with family life because after (2012) she became a mother three times.
Logically, a number of songs are about her children. Musically, Morissette is still hiding in the border area between rock and pop, although the electronic escapades of Havoc And Bright Lights are omitted this time. Morissette still sings powerfully and her voice is nicely framed with piano sounds and string arrangements. She still seems to be poking for a portion of bombast, although compared to the nineties version of herself she sounds a bit more carefree. (JvQ)more
