A Certain Ratio started in 1977 under the care of the famous
Factory label from Manchester as a post-punk band that ended up having more funk than punk. Forty-three years later the band still appears to be able to convince. Original funk with a background that not only ties in with the Manchester from the 80's, but also with the New York from the same period. There was a time when A Certain Ratio
… engaged in smoother polished funk, but now they seem to have returned to their old base. This could be due to the success of their collection box ACR:BOX released last year which highlighted their musical development from their first 7". A slightly tighter production wouldn't have done ACR Loco any harm, but on the other hand it keeps the funk out of post-punk thinking. We have to wait for remixes of this album, because the material is very suitable for that. (AD)more
