A separation plate, but again not. This is how Laura Veirs' eleventh album can be listened to. She wrote the songs of My Echo even before her divorce, without really being aware of the fact that they were (in)directly about a breakup of a relationship. In order to protect her family she stayed with her partner longer than she actually wanted. Her ex-partner is also her producer and produced this
… album. The basis for the lyrics lies in the poetry club of which Veirs is a member and started out as a poem. A serene beauty hangs over the album with the theme of freedom (read: escaping a marriage that feels like prison). Veirs doesn't need much more than a piano and guitar, where they also have artists like Jim James, Karl Blau and M. Ward was able to trap to play a tune. (JvQ)more
