The original title of Love Goes was To Die For. That title was cancelled by Sam Smith due to sensitivity around COVID-19 and he also saw the release date postponed from June to October 2020. … of the producers can be heard in uptempo dancepop songs like Diamonds and Dance ('Til You Love Someone). Smith wanted to go for less ballads and more pop music this time. That's why the soul is largely left out on this album. Still there are a lot of sensitive (piano) ballads on this album and they get a little bored at a certain point, no matter how beautifully Smith manages to put his vulnerability in the songs. Here and there Smith also plays with the vocoder and there is room for an unexpected moment, like the tempo change in the title track. Furthermore Sam Smith walks the beaten path on Love Goes.
