Guitarist Graig Wittle once saw singer Hannah Merrick sing at a school party and dreamed of starting a band with her ever since. Luck (or destiny) was on his hand when, years later, he met her as a colleague in the catering establishment where he started working. Not much later King Hannah was a fact and they signed with the prominent German indie-label
City Snake. It is striking that the above
… adventures took place in the British town of Liverpool. Without foreknowledge you would swear that King Hannah is an American duo. Their solid indie-guitar rock is close to The War On Drugs and Kurt Vile and with her dark and subcooled recital Merrick is especially reminiscent of American indie divas like Lana Del Rey and Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star). A strong chemistry between the duo and their raw rocking and at the same time warm sound suggest that they are going to surpass this short and a little too much hero based debut album. (MR)more
