At 67,
Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson decided to make her debut as a solo artist after all. She herself admits that it took so long because she felt insecure about her singing voice. Not strange when you share the stage with one of the most powerful and praised female rock voices, her sister
Ann. So she has a point there. Nancy Wilson is a good songwriter and guitarist (as we already knew from Heart),
… but her somewhat featureless vocals are ultimately the weak link on You And Me. An additional sign of insecurity is the over-use of the studio apparatus that tempers the singer's s-es (so-called de-essing), causing her to constantly have a not very charming wet slurp. But the atmosphere is otherwise good on this collection of soft rock songs, with Wilson getting assistance from the likes of Sammy Hagar and Duff McKagan. Several (former) members of Heart also accompany her, but sisterly is sadly missed. (MR)more
