For Eric Clapton, the spring of 2021 was dominated by deep frustration. His rescheduled tour was cancelled again and his performance at the Royal Albert Hall - where he had performed more than 200 times in the past - was cancelled. Even his attempt to record a live stream without an audience on the latter stage was unsuccessful. Clapton and his band moved to a Victorian country house in the English
… countryside. On this large, atmospheric location it was not a problem for the band members nor the technicians to keep one and a half meters distance. The sessions consist of familiar Clapton repertoire, played in an acoustic setting. The fact that this concept was used almost 30 years earlier to record one of his most successful albums Unplugged doesn't seem to bother anyone. The former Cream-guitarist is passionate about why he wanted to play live at all costs, be it without an audience. Although, the sessions were not really without an audience. On the balcony, overlooking the historic hall where the recordings took place, sat one lonely spectator: Clapton's wife Melia. (JV)more
