The name Bush Tetras won't ring a bell with everyone, but for a band made famous by only five singles, this company has an extremely long shelf life. They first performed on the New York post-punk scene in the late seventies and became known for Too Many Creeps and You Can't Be Funky. At the time, it was very popular there to mix punk with other influences. Before
Talking Heads, Bush Tetras sought
… refuge in funk, as raw and unpolished as possible. Also as a counterpart to the black scene, which was becoming increasingly smooth. In 1983 their debut album Wild Things was released on cassette only and thirteen years later the lesser Beauty Lies. Their sound was imitated by bands such as The Rapture, !!! and Franz Ferdinand and even today they continue to put their stamp on bands inspired by the punk funk sound of the early 80s. That alone makes listening to Rhythm And Paranoia: The Best Of Bush Tetras is well worth a listen. (AD)more
