After the fantastic
7 (2018), on which the dreampop of the American duo Beach House colored darker than ever, with Once Twice Melody they are back with a bulky album that spans no less than 18 tracks. As usual, the undulating melodies and drawling vocals that are woven through the songs are a delight to dream away. However, the sharp edges of 7 are left out more this time, giving the album a softer
… feel. Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand worked on the album for three years and received help from Alan Moulder (who mixed for My Bloody Valentine, among others). Although the playing time of 84 minutes is long, with enough variation within and between the songs there is never a dull moment, while the pace remains the same almost throughout the album. With a good helping of mysticism, the twosome captivates and enchants. Once Twice Melody doesn't show anything surprising or new, but is rather a best of of all their previous albums. (JvQ)more
