Without a real reason to give up, Utrecht-based hardcore band
John Coffey suddenly came to an end in 2016. And that while their popularity was only growing, with a successful performance at Pinkpop in 2015 and an Edison for their latest album
The Great News from the same year. And then there was that viral video of singer David Achter de Molen catching and drinking a thrown cup of beer while
… crowdsurfing. Although Achter de Molen is the only former member, his new group Beachdog does feel like the sequel to John Coffey. The singer still roars as ferociously as he does smoothly in songs that nod to hardcore and emocore. But Beachdog goes deeper, daring to rock out more and to slow down, sometimes reminiscent of At The Drive-In. Beachdog also sounds more accessible than John Coffey and thus - if the beer throwers are ready too - fully Pinkpop-fähig. (MR)more
