Oldskool nederhop meets kleinkunst on this little get-together between rapper Steven Engel and singer-songwriter Paul de Munnik. The two have collaborated before on each other's albums, but now thought it was time for a full duo album. The question that this daring combination raises is whether the audience for cabaret loves rap and vice versa. But the soup is certainly not served as hot as that.
The two found each other in common topics such as ambition, family, the night and, of course, making music. De Munnik sings his, often weighty lyrics as he has done since his breakup with Thomas Acda and accompanies himself on the acoustic guitar. Engel is usually announced with a swaying breakbeat before he joins in with his light-hearted, Amsterdam-style speech waterfalls. The duo is audibly having fun, but both De Munnik and Engel don't let themselves be pulled out of their comfort zone and keep doing what they've always done. (MR)more
