Anatolian blood runs where it cannot go. Psychedelic Turkish rock is hip and after Amsterdam (
Altin Gün) is now popping up in Tel Aviv. String man Itamar Kluger fell in love with the saz and the possibilities of amplifying and distorting it during a Turkish trip. Back in Tel Aviv, Satellites was born, which in addition to Anatolian rock also allows the sunshine of Tel Aviv and Jaffa into their
… music. No purists, then, and that is the strength of their psychedelically rocking debut album on which disco, jazz and Arabic kitsch are not shunned either. Besides Kluger's elastic saz playing, singer Yuli Shafriri is particularly striking. It's beautiful how she doesn't shy away from depth and manages to connect melancholy with rich and clear Anatolian and Arabic melodies. A catchy whole that never feels superficial. (MR)more
