Emerald Sea is the third album by New York-based audiovisual project Sound of Ceres. It is a concept record that tells a story about the universe getting to know itself. The collective managed to enlist artist Marina Abramović as a voice-over. In the lush compositions she can be heard as "the universe". Opposite her is front woman Karen Hover, who is supposed to represent Venus. In diverse compositions
… the story unfolds. The album is divided into three acts and is inspired by diverse compositions and genres, such as the ballet music of Maurice Ravel, Gustav Holst's The Planets and the exotic music of Les Baxter. This gives the music something unearthly and magical. The songs are beautifully orchestrated and each in itself offers a dream world in which you can lose yourself. From delicate to pompous, this album has it all. (JvQ)more
