Amsterdam-based band Personal Trainer could count on attention from BBC 6 DJ (and ex
The Fall member)
Marc Riley even before the release of their debut. Not surprisingly, Big Love Blanket is a hoot, with rattling guitars, propulsive rhythms and a tasty mix of styles. The band was founded by former
Canshaker Pi member Willem Smit, who is considered its creative brain. In live form, the band members
… rotate frequently. In terms of sound, they mostly reference Britpop and hints of garage rock and post-punk can be recognized. The unbridled energy is contagious and it makes the listener glide through the album. Within the songs there is also room for the necessary humor. Also striking are the beautiful string arrangements and catchy synth melodies, which give the album a not-to-be-digested edge. (JvQ)more
