25 years after her hit
Man! I Feel Like a Woman came out, Shania Twain still combines pop and country into a catchy whole on her sixth album Queen Of Me. Even more than before, she shifts toward pop music, although she does not completely shake off her country roots. The end result sounds surprisingly fresh and is a lot more upbeat compared to predecessor Now. Slight influences from folk can also
… be heard. Here and there you could argue that it sounds like Taylor Swift, but let's not forget that it was Twain who influenced Swift so strongly. Twain presents herself on this album as a strong woman and manages to underline that with her still impressive voice. Although it sounds different from earlier work due to Lyme disease, this does not detract from her signature sound. Queen of Me shows a free Twain who goes about her work with audible pleasure.
