He is an industrious and versatile man, Huw Evans from Cardiff. Once starting out as a television presenter, Evans eventually chose a music career under the alias H. Hawkline. In addition to his own work, he played on albums by (ex-girlfriends)
Aldous Harding and
Cate Le Bon and also designed their covers. Le Bon is now in the producer's chair on Hawkline's fifth album Milk For Flowers, and it's
… easy to hear. The album centers on the loss of his mother in 2018 and has melancholic undertones. This manifests itself in dark art-pop that at times even comes close to Le Bon's albums Reward (2019) and Pompeii (2022). The same solemn and somewhat alienating electro-acoustic atmosphere. But Hawkline sings movingly and expressively of his loss, which makes Milk For Flowers, above all, a warm and human album. (MR)more
